Dr. Steven Smith is Assistant Professor of Sacred Scripture at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary (Emmitsburg, MD). For those preparing for diocesan priesthood in the Roman Catholic Church, “The Mount” is the largest – and one of the most respected – graduate programs and houses of formation in the U.S. today.   Steve has a PhD in New Testament from Loyola University of Chicago. As a seminary professor, he teaches an on a wide array of biblical topics – including a course on Catholic Scripture study which inspired his first published book.  In 2012, Our Sunday Visitor released Dr. Smith’s book, The Word of the Lord: 7 Essential Principles for Catholic Scripture Study. It is endorsed by Francis Cardinal George among others. The book is available at Dr. Smith’s website ( Dr. Smith is a sought after speaker, on an array topics, such as: ‘The God Who Speaks in Scripture’,  ‘The Rosary – a Biblical Prayer’,  ‘Difficult Passages of the OT – and What to Do With Them’, as well as ‘Preparing for the Sacrament of Marriage’.  Dr. Smith has led groups through the Egypt and the Holy Land on numerous occasions. He is currently working on his next two book projects, the first deals with ‘Adam & Eve, Christ & Mary – and the second is a book project regarding the New Evangelization.’  He and his wife Elizabeth (are both “reverts” to the Church) have been married 13 years.  They have two lovely children – Isabelle and Olivia Marie.  The Smiths live in rural Maryland.
