Master of Arts (Theology)
The program is offered through the Graduate School of Theology, which is accredited by The Association of Theological Schools. This program:
- Provides systematic study of dogmatic, moral, and sacramental theology, Scripture, philosophy, spirituality, and Church history.
- Provides the solid foundation in Church teaching to qualify individuals to seek professional careers in the Church or to give the necessary tools to those already involved in Church work.
- Requires an official transcript showing an undergraduate degree earned from an accredited college or university.
- For those whose first language is not English, a minimum TOEFL exam score is required.
- Requires completion of 36 credits.
Master of Arts in Theology and Educational Ministry
The program is offered through the Graduate School of Theology, which is accredited by The Association of Theological Schools. This program is a variation of the standard graduate theology degree specifically tailored to Directors of Religious Education (DREs), secondary school teachers, and catechists.
- Requires completion of 36 credits.
- Culminates with a program portfolio and practicum.

Graduate Certificate in Sacred Scripture
- Offers Sacred Scripture study at the graduate level without the requirements of a full Master’s program.
- Requires completion of 18 credits.
- Credits earned may be applied toward the graduate degree programs.
Graduate Certificate in Church History
- Offers Church History study at the graduate level without the requirements of a full Master’s program.
- Requires completion of 18 credits.
- Credits earned may be applied toward the graduate degree programs.
Graduate Certificate for Catholic Educators
- Offers coursework to provide sound religious formation for Catholic youth and adults and accurate information to discuss the Faith with those who may be seeking a faith life or are otherwise unaffiliated with the Catholic Church without the requirements of a full Master’s program.
- Requires completion of 18 credits.
- Credits earned may be applied toward the graduate degree programs.

Bachelor of Arts in Theology Program
- Provides systematic knowledge of the Catholic faith at a collegiate level.
- Develops competency and confidence in the essential teachings of the Catholic Church using Sacred Scripture, Sacred Tradition, and the documents of the Magisterium, with a special emphasis on the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the Documents of the Second Vatican Council.
- Requires official transcripts from undergraduate institutions attended.
- For those whose first language is not English, a minimum TOEFL exam score is required.
Associate of Arts in the Liberal Arts with a Concentration in Catholic Studies
- Emphasizes the Catholic intellectual tradition.
- Offers a fully online liberal arts program for the professional development of catechists, parents, aspiring Catholic school teachers, those seeking a career in the Catholic Church, and anyone else who may later seek a higher degree in the liberal arts.
- Credits earned may be applied toward the BA in Theology Degree Completion program.
- May be applied toward degrees at the following Catholic colleges, enabling the AA graduate to earn a bachelor’s degree in a variety of fields and enjoy a campus experience at a reduced cost of a four-year campus-based education:
Undergraduate Catechetical Coordinator Certificate
An undergraduate academic certificate program for Church leaders, employees, and catechists who desire a comprehensive certification in Catholic teachings and theology and practical ways to teach these principles.
- Requires completion of 18 credits.
- Credits earned may be applied toward the BA in Theology Degree Completion program.

Catechetical Diploma
Provides a systematic program of study to become a confident and well-qualified catechist.
- Requires completion of 36 credits.
- Awards a recognized ecclesiastical teaching certificate.
Permanent Diaconate Intellectual Formation
CDU offers graduate and undergraduate courses that dioceses may wish to incorporate into their permanent diaconate formation programs. Deacon directors and others are invited to contact Academic Leadership for more information.
