About Rev. Avelino Gonzalez-Ferrer, STL, STD

Rev. Dr. Avelino Gonzalez-Ferrer, Catholic priest of the Archdiocese of Washington and former Vatican official for the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, holds a doctorate in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome, Italy.

Rev. Dr. Gonzalez-Ferrer has served as a member of the Theological Advisory Council and as Director of the Office of Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs for the Archdiocese of Washington.

He has also served as President of the Interfaith Council of Metropolitan Washington, the oldest and largest organization of religious leaders in the Washington, D.C., area, working towards greater interfaith dialogue and peace building.

Rev. Dr. Gonzalez-Ferrer is the author of several articles written for L’Osservatore Romano, the daily newspaper of Vatican City State, and other online journals. He has also served as guest commentator for Vatican News and EWTN, News Nightly with Brian Patrick, on ecumenical dialogue and U.S.-Cuba relations. He also served as guest television commentator on the occasion of Pope Francis’ visit to Washington, D.C., in 2015 for WUSA-TV Channel 9.
